Your coding agent forgets everything between chats. AtticDB remembers, on your own disk.
It saves your rules and decisions on your machine. Every new chat in Claude Code, Codex, Copilot and VS Code starts with them. Free, open source, 1 small binary, no account.
Set up AtticDB memory for me. Follow https://atticdb.com/install.md step by step.
Works in Claude Code, Codex, GitHub Copilot CLI and VS Code. Read the steps first: install.md
curl -fsSL https://github.com/Clawdlinux/atticdb/releases/latest/download/install.sh | shEarly. Word search, not semantic. Great for your laptop, not for production yet.
Save it once
Save a rule from your terminal. Every new chat in that repo starts with it.
Try it in 1 minuteIt only says 'saved' after the save is really on disk. Most memory tools don't promise that.
Local NVMe, 1 writer: AtticDB acked in 94 µs at p50, 9,799 acks/s.
Time slowed 8,000x. Real p50, Local NVMe, 1 writer: 94 µs
Pull the plug. Frames not yet synced drop away. Acked writes stay.
An illustration of ack-after-sync, not a crash test. The real test cuts power on LazyFS. CI runs crash simulations on 2,000 seeds.
Install it your way
Paste this into your coding agent.

Or pick the commands yourself
Install the binary. It checks the download against SHA256SUMS and never uses sudo.
curl -fsSL https:// github.com/ Clawdlinux/ atticdb/ releases/ latest/ download/ install.sh | sh If your shell says "command not found", run ~/.local/bin/atticdb setup. To fix it for good, add this line to ~/.zshrc (the macOS default) or ~/.bashrc.
export PATH="$HOME/ .local/ bin:$PATH"
Then run each of these on its own. Setup asks you questions.
See what setup would change. It writes nothing.
atticdb setup --dry-runConnect your apps. Setup finds them and asks which to use. Every edited file is backed up first.
atticdb setupCheck the install. It writes nothing.
atticdb doctor
What changes in my agent?
Each new chat in a repo starts with a short memory block. It holds your rules and that repo's 5 newest notes. This works in Claude Code, Codex, Copilot and VS Code. Your agent can also save and search memory during a chat. To see the exact block, run atticdb studio and open Chat start.
Where is my data?
On your own disk. On macOS it's in ~/Library/Application Support/atticdb. On Linux it's in ~/.local/share/atticdb. AtticDB has no cloud and no account. Your app does send the memory block to its model, like the rest of your chat.
How do I uninstall it?
Run atticdb disconnect with each app's name, such as atticdb disconnect claude-code. Then stop the background server and delete the binary and the data folder. The install docs list every command under Uninstall.
Is it free?
Yes. It's open source under Apache-2.0 or MIT, and it runs on your laptop for free. A paid cloud version is planned. The local version stays free.
Measured, not promised
